Georgia Capital Defender Macon Office – Second Chair Attorney The Georgia Capital Defender Office has an opening for a Second Chair Attorney in the Macon office.
The Macon Office handles indigent capital cases predominantly in middle Georgia.
The applicant must be willing and able to handle cases throughout Georgia if necessary.
All applicants must have a strong interest in death penalty defense and client-centered representation.
Applicants are expected to provide zealous representation and advocacy to indigent defendants facing the death penalty.
Second Chair applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Applicant must have 3-5 years of criminal trial experience and be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia or able to waive into the Georgia Bar within a reasonable time period.
The Second Chair Attorney must have significant jury trial experience and have been lead or co-counsel in one or more murder cases or two serious violent felony cases to verdict.
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel extensively.

This position performs as a lead attorney, assigned to serious, high-profile, and significant felony and appellate cases.
JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER III Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal experience OR Two years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021)
