Georgia Legal Services seeks a staff attorney to work in its Macon office.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
• Litigate cases in administrative, state and federal forums, with a focus on domestic violence survivors and kinship caregivers.
• Case work will focus on domestic violence cases, but also encompass kinship cases, elder law cases and other legal issues affecting domestic violence survivors.
• Draft briefs, motions and memoranda.
• Circuit ride to assigned counties.
• Conduct community legal education sessions and engage in outreach activities.
• Participate on action teams that explore and solve systemic issues affecting clients.
Requirements:
• Graduate of an accredited law school and current member of Georgia Bar with experience working with persons with low incomes and a commitment to social justice.
• Willingness and ability to work as part of a team in a professional and collaborative manner.
• Computer literacy, which includes familiarity using email, Excel, Word, SharePoint, LegalServer, and other computer programs.
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid Georgia driver's license.
• Ability to speak Spanish is highly valued.
• Demonstrated interest or experience working with low-income clients on poverty law issues and commitment to social justice;
• Ability to work with diverse populations, backgrounds and perspectives;
• Excellent oral advocacy, research, and writing skills;
• Attention to detail and self-motivated;
• Ability to be creative and a team player.
Salary Requirements:
The salary is $55,000+ depending on experience and qualifications.
The program provides generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off including parental leave; birthday holiday; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 per month deductible); 403B with 3% match; Georgia Bar dues and CLE expenses.
In addition, employees who pass GLSP’s Spanish proficiency test receive additional compensation.
GLSP offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
